Competition "Upgrade: Załęże"
Present your project and participate in the Katowice Street Art Festival 2014. We are waiting for your applications till the 8th of March!
The Katowice Street Art Festival is a celebration of the city and its urbanity, but it is also an event that changes Katowice for the better. It all started in the center of the city, but with every new edition of the festival, it has entered into the neighboring districts with more confidence, including those that are considered to be less representative.
Upgrade: the fourth edition of the festival, which will take place in Załęże, will be another such event. The competition will help us to choose a project that will subsequently be implemented in the district of Załęże in May 2014 (16-25th May 2014).
We are looking for:
* a good idea for Załęże that matches the Katowice Street Art Festival formula

Participants can be:
*artistic school students, activists, graffiti artists, anyone who has good and original ideas

RULES OF THE COMPETITION ENTITLED Upgrade: Załęże
as a part of Katowice Street Art Festival 2014
consisting in the execution of a project in the Załęże District
Organised by: Institution of Culture of Katowice – the City of Gardens
§ 1
These Rules provide for terms and conditions of the project entitled ”Upgrade: Załęże” to be carried out as a part of Katowice Street Art Festival 2014 in Katowice. The purpose of the project is to interfere in the public space of the Załęże District in accordance with a design to be selected. The major assumption of the project is to add life to the place and activate inhabitants of the District. The competition is organised by the Institution of Culture of Katowice – the City of Gardens.
§ 2
Competition participants must prepare designs composed of a concept and a budget that comply with the purpose of the competition.
The concept must be composed of a descriptive part and drawings.
The budget must be prepared on the basis of rates of materials and services that do not differ from market prices of such materials and services.
The budget may not exceed PLN 7000 (seven thousand zloty) gross, including the design author’s remuneration which may not exceed PLN 2 000 (two thousand zloty) gross.
The design that, based on criteria set out in § 4, will be recognized as the best one by the organiser will be implemented at the organiser’s cost, including:
the cost of materials, tools and the author’s remuneration,
the acquisition of necessary permits,
the delegation of employees of the Institution of Culture of Katowice – the City of Gardens to coordinate the project.
To have its design implemented, the designer must enter into a separate agreement with the organiser. Such an agreement will provide for terms and conditions of cooperation, including, in particular, copyrights to the design (the transfer of property rights to the organiser).
The organiser reserves the right not to implement the design in accordance with the concept if it is not possible for independent reasons, including, in particular, the lack of a third party consent to access properties. In such a case, the participant must modify the design, unless this is contrary to the designer’s assumptions and goals.
§ 3
The competition may be attended by individuals or teams or persons that will provide the following documents within the defined time limit:
a design including a budget,
a contractor’s portfolio (optionally).
The documents must be submitted by mail to the Institution’s address or by e-mail to dawid.nickel@miasto-ogrodow.eu by 8 March 2014.
If the competition is attended by a team of persons, then they must appoint a project leader.
§4
1. The competition committee will be composed of persons to be appointed by the head of the Institution of Culture of Katowice – the City of Gardens.
2. All applications that meet formal criteria will be sorted out and recorded in the list of proposals. The list will be available at the Institution starting from 24 March 2014. Then, the Institution will apply for permits to carry out works related to the design starting from a proposal that has obtained the bigger number of points. If no permit is obtained, further proposals will be taken into account. The first proposal for which proposals are obtained will be deemed to be the winner of the competition.
The information which design has won will be published in the website: miasto-ogrodow.eu till 24 March 2014.
§5
The works connected with the implementation of the design are planned to be commenced in May 2014. The works must finish at the latest by August 2014.
